Gold Price in India

Gold prices in India are commonly referenced against benchmark rates published by IBJA, which reflects national bullion market pricing. The price you see quoted as a "gold rate" is typically a per-gram or per-10-gram bullion price for a given purity (most often 24K/999 or 22K/916) — not the final price you'd pay at a jewellery store. Retail jewellery prices are usually higher than the benchmark rate because they include making charges, wastage, GST, and the jeweller's own premium.

Silver Price in India

Silver in India is most commonly quoted per kilogram for bullion and bulk trading, and per gram or per 10 grams for smaller retail purchases such as silver coins, utensils, or jewellery. As with gold, the benchmark rate reflects the metal's market value and doesn't include the making charges or GST that apply to a finished retail item.

Gold Purity: 24K, 22K, 20K, 18K, and 14K

Gold purity is measured in karats, with 24K being (nearly) pure gold. Lower karat values mean the metal is alloyed with other metals (like silver, copper, or zinc) for added strength and durability, which is common in jewellery.

KaratFinenessGold Content
24K99999.9% pure gold
22K91691.6% pure gold
20K83383.3% pure gold
18K75075.0% pure gold
14K58558.5% pure gold

The "fineness" number (999, 916, etc.) represents parts per thousand of pure gold by weight. A 22K/916 item is 91.6% pure gold, with the remaining 8.4% being other metals in the alloy.

Why Jewellery Prices Differ from Benchmark Rates

The IBJA rate reflects the market value of the raw metal. What you actually pay at a jewellery store is typically higher, because it includes:

  • Making charges — the jeweller's labor and craftsmanship cost, charged either per gram or as a percentage of the gold value.
  • Wastage — a percentage added to account for metal lost during the crafting process.
  • GST — Goods and Services Tax, applied on top of the metal value, wastage, and making charges.
  • Dealer or jeweller premium — some retailers add their own margin on top of the benchmark rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the gold price in India today?

DailyCalculator does not publish live gold prices. Click "View Today's Gold Rates" above to see the current benchmark rate published by IBJA.

Where can I check the latest IBJA gold rate?

What is the difference between 24K and 22K gold?

24K gold is 99.9% pure (999 fineness). 22K gold is 91.6% pure (916 fineness), alloyed with other metals for added strength — commonly used in jewellery since pure 24K gold is too soft for intricate designs.

What is the silver price per kilogram?

Check IBJA's website for the current silver rate. Once you have it, use our Silver Price Calculator to convert it to any weight unit, including per kilogram.

How many grams are in one tola?

1 tola equals 11.6638125 grams.

Why is jewellery more expensive than the gold rate?

The gold rate reflects only the raw metal's market value. A finished jewellery piece adds making charges, wastage, and GST, which raise the final price above the benchmark rate.

Does the IBJA rate include GST?

This depends on how IBJA publishes the specific rate you're viewing — check IBJA's website directly for how each rate is labeled. GST is generally applied separately when you purchase jewellery or bullion at retail.

Are IBJA rates the same as jewellery-shop prices?

No. IBJA rates are bullion benchmark rates. Jewellery-shop prices are typically higher, since they include making charges, wastage, GST, and the retailer's own premium on top of the benchmark rate.
