Estimated Jewellery Price
This is an estimate only. Actual jewellery prices vary by jeweller, design, and any additional charges not entered here.
How This Calculator Works
Gold jewellery pricing typically layers several charges on top of the raw metal value: a wastage percentage (to account for metal lost during crafting), making charges (the jeweller's labor cost, either a flat ₹/gram or a percentage of gold value), and GST on the subtotal.
Formula
Wastage Amount = Gold Value × Wastage %
Making Charges = ₹/gram × Weight, or Gold Value × Making %
Subtotal = Gold Value + Wastage Amount + Making Charges
GST Amount = Subtotal × GST %
Final Price = Subtotal + GST Amount
Worked Example
10 grams of 22K (916) gold at a 24K rate of ₹10,000/g, with ₹500/g making charges, 8% wastage, and 3% GST:
- Gold Value = ₹10,000 × 0.916 × 10 = ₹91,600
- Wastage (8%) = ₹91,600 × 0.08 = ₹7,328
- Making Charges = ₹500 × 10 = ₹5,000
- Subtotal = ₹91,600 + ₹7,328 + ₹5,000 = ₹1,03,928
- GST (3%) = ₹1,03,928 × 0.03 = ₹3,117.84
- Estimated Final Price = ₹1,07,045.84
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is jewellery more expensive than the gold rate?
The gold rate reflects only the raw metal's value. A finished jewellery piece adds making charges (craftsmanship), wastage (metal lost in the crafting process), and GST — all of which raise the final price above the raw metal value.
Does the displayed gold rate include GST?
No. GST is applied separately, on top of the gold value, wastage, and making charges — not baked into the base gold rate itself.
How accurate is this estimate?
It's a mathematical estimate based on the figures you enter. Actual jewellery prices vary by jeweller, design complexity, brand, and any additional charges (such as hallmarking fees) not included in this calculator.
