How the Days Between Dates Calculator Works
This calculator finds the exact number of calendar days separating two dates using precise, leap-year-aware date math, then converts that span into weeks and a full years/months/days breakdown.
Formula
Inclusive Count = Days Between + 1 (counts both the start and end date)
Worked example: From January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026 is 364 days (or 365 days if counted inclusively, since 2026 is not a leap year).
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the first date and the second date — order doesn't matter.
- Check "inclusive count" if you want to count both the start and end date (common for counting rental days, event durations, or vacation days).
- Read the day count, week count, and years/months/days breakdown.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between an inclusive and exclusive day count?
An exclusive count (the default) measures the span between two dates — e.g. Jan 1 to Jan 2 is 1 day. An inclusive count adds 1 to also count the start date itself — useful for counting total calendar days of a stay or event, e.g. a hotel booking from Jan 1 to Jan 3 covers 3 calendar days inclusively.
Does this account for leap years?
Yes, the calculation is based on real calendar dates, so leap years (including February 29) are automatically factored into the day count.
Does the order of the two dates matter?
No — enter the dates in either order and the calculator will correctly compute the span between them.
