Volume Formulas

Cube: V = s³
Box: V = l × w × h
Sphere: V = (4/3) π r³
Cylinder: V = π r² h
Cone: V = (1/3) π r² h
Pyramid (square base): V = (1/3) × base² × h

Worked Example

The calculator loads with a cube of side length 4 ft. Using V = s³, the volume is 4³ = 4 × 4 × 4 = 64 ft³. Switching to a cylinder with radius 3 ft and height 6 ft would instead give V = π × r² × h = π × 3² × 6 ≈ 169.65 ft³.

Frequently Asked Questions

What units does this calculator use?

You can select any linear unit (ft, m, in, cm) — the result is shown as that unit cubed, e.g. ft³.

How is a cone's volume related to a cylinder's?

A cone with the same base radius and height as a cylinder has exactly one-third the volume.

Does this calculator support pyramids with rectangular bases?

This calculator assumes a square base pyramid. For a rectangular base, multiply length × width instead of base² and use the same 1/3 × base area × height formula.
