Overnight shifts (time out earlier than time in) are automatically treated as crossing midnight. Break minutes are subtracted from each day's worked hours.
How the Time Card Calculator Works
This calculator adds up the hours worked each day of the week based on your clock-in and clock-out times, minus any unpaid break time, then totals the week and applies overtime rules.
Formula
(If Time Out is earlier than Time In, 24 hours is added to account for an overnight shift)
Weekly Total = Sum of all daily hours
Overtime Hours = max(0, Weekly Total − Overtime Threshold)
Regular Hours = Weekly Total − Overtime Hours
Total Pay = Regular Hours × Rate + Overtime Hours × Rate × Overtime Multiplier
Frequently Asked Questions
How is overtime calculated?
Most US employers pay 1.5× your hourly rate ("time and a half") for hours worked beyond 40 in a week, though this can vary by state and employer policy.
Does this handle overnight shifts?
Yes. If your time-out is earlier than your time-in (for example, in at 10 PM and out at 6 AM), the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and adds 24 hours automatically.
Are unpaid breaks subtracted from my hours?
Yes, any break minutes you enter for a day are subtracted from that day's worked hours before totaling the week.
