How the Ideal Weight Calculator Works
Several formulas have been developed over the decades to estimate "ideal" body weight from height alone. Each formula sets a base weight for 5 feet of height, then adds a fixed amount for every inch above that.
Formulas (result in kg, height in inches over 5 ft)
Devine — Men: 50.0 + 2.3 × inches over 5ft | Women: 45.5 + 2.3 × inches over 5ft
Robinson — Men: 52.0 + 1.9 × inches over 5ft | Women: 49.0 + 1.7 × inches over 5ft
Miller — Men: 56.2 + 1.41 × inches over 5ft | Women: 53.1 + 1.36 × inches over 5ft

Frequently Asked Questions
Which ideal weight formula is best?
No single formula is universally "best" — they were developed for different purposes (often medical dosing) and can vary by several pounds. The average of all four gives a reasonable general estimate.
Do these formulas account for muscle mass?
No. These formulas are based purely on height and sex, so they may underestimate a healthy weight for muscular individuals or overestimate it for those with less muscle mass.
Should I use BMI or ideal weight formulas?
Both are general screening tools. BMI accounts for your actual weight relative to height, while ideal weight formulas estimate a target weight from height alone. Neither replaces a full clinical assessment.
